Are You Asking: Is There a God?
Is There a God?
Is there a God? And does He really know and love me? These are really personal questions that have stirred the hearts and minds of humanity for centuries. The answers, though, are surprisingly simple: Yes! A strong, unwavering, and resounding yes.
This feels like a difficult question because we allow the opinion of others to escalate and confuse the answer. Many wrestle with the existence of God because they can’t simply pull back the curtain and reveal the wizard of all things. I recently shared a post about an man by the name of Enos and his desiring to know of God.
Unlike tangible objects, God isn’t something we can measure, dissect, or prove through a controlled experiment. Yet, this does not diminish His reality.
Throughout history, countless arguments have been made both for and against the existence of God. Books have been written, debates have been held, and the internet overflows with perspectives from both believers (me) and skeptics. The reason these discussions persist is simple: faith is not built solely on scientific evidence, nor is disbelief a result of its absence. Rather, the question of God’s existence often comes down to a matter of the heart—a willingness to see, seek, and experience Him beyond the limits of human understanding.
All Things Denote There Is a God
For those who seek God, the evidence of His presence is everywhere– woven into the intricate design of the universe. Some may look into the cosmos and see nothing more than random planets drifting around in the empty void of space. But I see a breathtaking masterpiece of planets that “roll upon their wings in their glory, in the midst of the power of God.” (D&C 88:45)
We are not here by chance. The very fact that you exist is nothing short of miraculous. Ali Benazir at the Harvard Law School created an infographic that illustrates the probability of your existence concluding that the odds are an astronomical 1 in 102,685,000! A odds so staggering that no sensible betting man would take!
From the vastness of the universe to the smallest of creatures, everything points to the existence of a Creator. As the prophet Alma declared in the Book of Mormon: “All Things Denote There is a God” (Alma 30:44). Alma’s words carry weight—not only because they were spoken with conviction, but because they came from a man who had seen an angel, a man whose life had been transformed by divine truth.
Is there a God and I Am a Child of God?
One of the most beloved hymn, “I Am a Child of God” beautifully captures our relationship with God. As a child of God, we are his spirit children. This divine heritage means that we once lived with Him and will one day return to be with Him.
-
I am a child of God,
-
And he has sent me here,
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear. -
[Chorus]
Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with him someday. -
2. I am a child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand his words
Before it grows too late. -
3. I am a child of God.
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do his will
I’ll live with him once more.
So, is there a God? Yes. Does He truly know and love you? Absolutely. And that truth, once embraced, changes everything.
Is There a God? – Know For Yourself
Although the input from me and others can be beneficial in discovering God, don’t let them determine your personal knowledge. As I said before, others’ opinions can cause confusion. There is only One who can truly let you know of His existence and He is willing and able to give you those truths. esus Himself declared in John 17:3, “This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” Knowing God is not just about believing in Him—it is about developing a relationship with Him.“
A simple 4 step process will help you come to know God:
- Believe – Open your heart to the possibility that God exists.
- Obey – Live according to His commandments and align you life with His teachings.
- Study – Immerse yourself in His scriptures to better understand His will, His teachings, and His love. How can you serve a God you don’t know?
- Pray – Speak to Him honestly and earnestly, and listen for His answers through the Holy Ghost who “will teach you all things” (John 14:26).
As you take these steps with real intent, God will make Himself known to you in ways that are personal and undeniable. Your journey to knowing Him is one of the most important you will ever take. Trust in Him, seek Him, and He will lead you to the truth.
Best of luck on your journey to knowing God!
