What is General Conference?
For two days this weekend, the world becomes Salt Lake City. Prophets, apostles, and other church leaders speak from the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City, carrying words of hope and faith across continents. It’s the biannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a time when our living prophets and apostles speak to millions like me, yearning to draw closer to Jesus Christ.
The conference takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Conference Center adjacent to the Salt Lake Temple, but is broadcast worldwide and translated into more than 80 languages including Yapese if you happen to know that language or have even heard of it before.
There are five two-hour sessions of the conference. Three are held on Saturday at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm mountain time. The remaining two are held in place of our regular worship services on Sunday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm mountain time.
This is a very important conference because it is a time in which we receive inspiration from men and women of God about what we should be doing to bring ourselves closer to God. The messages are inspiring and spiritual. We come away from the conference with a determination to do better, be a better person, and include Christ more in our daily lives.
If you are looking for a great uplifting experience, all of the General Conferences are available to watch online. To make it a regular habit, put it on your calendar for the first Saturday and Sunday of April and October at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm mountain time.
